Implementation of interactive prototypes

Qt // QML // Javascript

MBUX - Home Screen

This was the first project I worked on at Mercedes. I was part of a small team of software engineers responsible for developing and maintaining prototypes for the first generation of the MBUX infotainment system, which would be revealed in 2018. My main tasks involved programming the graphical user interface of the head unit part of the prototype software using Qt and QML, with JavaScript handling the more interactive and dynamic elements. I also tested my features locally, as well as in seat bucks and specially fitted vehicles.

The project required close collaboration with UX designers to properly implement interaction flows and integrate the graphical assets they provided. The resulting software was used during pre-production to evaluate various concepts and designs, helping to select the best options for implementation in the actual in-car software. It was also showcased in customer studies and management presentations up to the highest level.

When I joined Mercedes, the project was already well underway, and I was one of several new hires brought on to strengthen the team and accelerate development. While it was certainly a challenge—being fresh out of university and working with tools and programming languages I hadn’t used before—I quickly found my footing and became a productive member of the team.
